This policy explains how Sian Berry and her team will protect any information you provide to us.

1. Sian Berry and London Green Party are the owners of the email lists linked here and their registered address is: The Biscuit Factory, Unit 201 A Block, 100 Clements Road, London, SE16 4DG.

2. The information you provide will be used by Sian Berry and London Green Party in order to maintain a register of supporters and supply you with updates and calls to action about Sian Berry and London Green Party’s campaigning in London. If you signed up to hear about a particular topic, or for a particular campaign, we will respect that choice. Your data will not be used for other Green Party campaigns, or for national party news – which you can sign up to separately at www.greenparty.org.uk.

3. We will never voluntarily share your personal information with a third party, and will fight to the degree that we are able any legal or government action that attempts to obtain such data.

4. Under the Data Protection Act, you may at any time request a copy of all information we hold on you (for which we may on rare occasions charge a small fee to offset our administration costs) by email or writing to us at the above address.

What is our legal basis for using your data?

In order to hold and process your data we are obliged to identify the lawful basis upon which we do so. The lawful basis is different for the different purposes identified above.

Purpose: Informing supporters of London Green Party activities and campaigns

Lawful Basis: Public task

We process this personal data on the basis that we ensure that we communicate effectively with actual and potential supporters of the Green Party and its campaigns. This ensures that we can continue to represent supporters views in a democratic way and to help us generate revenue to fund our political activities.  This processing is considered to be fundamental to our role in promoting democracy in the public interest.

Purpose: Fundraising

Lawful basis: Public task.

We may from time to time contact you directly asking for donations to help fund the work of the Party.  Without funding it would be impossible to function as a Political Party and therefore such communication is considered to be a fundamental part of our role in promoting democracy in the public interest.

Purpose: Canvassing of Political Opinions

Lawful Basis: Public task.

As a political party we require an understanding of the political opinions of the UK electorate both nationally and on local campaigns and issues.  This understanding is considered to be a fundamental part of our role in promoting democracy in the public interest.  Political opinions are classed as ‘special category’ data under data privacy legislation and our processing of this data is in accordance with Article 9 (g) of the General Data Protection Regulations which states that “processing is necessary for reasons of substantial public interest, on the basis of Union or Member State law…”

Mailchimp

Campaign-based email lists at sianberry.london are hosted by Mailchimp, which also holds data on servers in the United States. Mailchimp’s privacy policy can be found here, and each communication from us through this platform allows the opportunity to opt out of further communication and have your data removed from these systems.

How long do we keep your data for?

Where you have identified as a supporter your data will be held until such time as you unsubscribe from receiving communications from us.

Where you have donated to London Green Party, the Green Party or one of its campaigns the related data will be held for a period of 5 years to ensure we can comply with financial regulations.
