There are two elections happening on 5 May 2016 – for the Mayor of London and for the London Assembly.
The Green Party is standing candidates for Mayor, in every London Assembly constituency, and for the election of Londonwide Assembly Members.

Vote Green on orange
The London Assembly holds the Mayor of London to account and sets their budget. Vote Green on the orange ballot paper to elect more Green Assembly members – this election is held under a fair voting system, so every vote counts.
Londonwide Assembly candidates
Your vote is powerful. In the last election, the Greens were only around 1% away from electing a third Assembly member. Vote Green on the orange ballot paper and you will elect more Green Assembly members.
1. Sian Berry
Sian Berry is also the candidate for Mayor of London and is a former Principal Speaker of the Green Party. She previously stood as the party’s candidate for Mayor of London in 2008. A councillor in the London Borough of Camden, she has been a transport campaigner for more than a decade and until recently worked for the Campaign for Better Transport.
Sian was elected as a councillor for Highgate in Camden in 2014. There she has won a £1 million fund to stop libraries and community centres closing, and is challenging cuts to social housing in the King’s Cross redevelopment and the closure of public toilets.
As a transport campaigner, she also founded the Alliance Against Urban 4x4s, which persuaded then Mayor Ken Livingstone to introduce a higher congestion charge for the most polluting cars.
2. Caroline Russell
Caroline Russell is a councilor in Islington where, as the sole Green member, she constitutes the entire opposition to the Labour Party. She is also the Green Party’s national transport spokesperson. In the 2015 General Election she stood against Jeremy Corbyn in Islington North where she achieved the party’s third-best result in London.
3. Shahrar Ali
Dr Shahrar Ali was elected deputy leader of the Green Party in September 2014, becoming the first BME deputy of a UK parliamentary party. Across London, Shahrar has been a champion for civil liberties and an outspoken critic of successive governments’ assault upon them, whether the illicit use of shoot to kill or the criminalisation of free speech. Shahrar edited Why Vote Green 2015 and has featured in 1000 Londoners and TED.
4. Jonathan Bartley
Jonathan Bartley is the Green Party’s Work and Pensions spokesperson. He has worked in the House of Commons and successfully campaigned in Lambeth to save local housing. He is the chair of a charity which promotes inclusive education, and has raised over a million pounds for work in the developing world.
5. Noel Lynch
Noel Lynch was a member of the London Assembly from 2003 to 2004, where he served on the Metropolitan Police Authority, LPFEPA and was Chair of Standards for the GLA. He is the founder and present co-chair of the Green Party Trade Union Group and the co-chair and founder of Green Seniors. He is also the chair of Barnet Green Party and runs the Green Room charity shop at Tally Ho Corner, N12.
6. Rashid Nix
Rashid Nix is a housing activist, youth mentor, radio presenter, social commentator and father. A south London native, and graduate of South Bank University, he originally worked in publishing.
Rashid spent five successful years at Westminster REC as a mentoring expert, designing programmes for hard to reach young people and served as community representative training police officers as part of the Lawrence Inquiry recommendations.
7. Dee Searle
Dee Searle is a former journalist and foreign correspondent who has held senior roles in a wide range of organisations, including Amnesty International, Oxfam, Unicef, University of the Arts London, Home-Start Camden and the Weekend Arts College.
She was born and raised in Hackney, where her first Green action was at the age of 10, when she organised a petition against the proposed demolition of Clapton Pond. Dee works as a communication and charity consultant and is a Trustee of the IF Project, which provides free arts and humanities courses for young Londoners who can’t afford university fees. She is co-chair of Camden Green Party.
8. Benali Hamdache
Benali Hamdache lives in Islington and has worked as a campaigner and activist for a variety of causes. Currently he works to campaign to keep Britain in the EU and in the past has worked in migrants rights and mental health. Benali is also an LGBTIQ campaigner having been the Chair of LGBTIQ Greens.
9. Andrea Carey Fuller
Andrea Carey Fuller stood as a local Councillor candidate for Lewisham’s Ladywell Ward in 2014. She is a non-practising human rights lawyer who takes on voluntary advocacy case-work in her community helping residents with housing, health, benefits and social care issues, and also assists and supports two local Neighbourhood Forums: Deptford Neighbourhood Action and A Better Lee Green.
10. RoseMary Warrington
RoseMary Warrington holds the voluntary role of secretary to the London Green Party as well as being active locally in both Waltham Forest and Redbridge. She was the candidate for Ilford South in the 2015 General Election where both the Green Party’s share of the vote and number of votes increased.

11. Peter Underwood
Peter Underwood is Chair of the Croydon & Sutton Green Party and stood as the party’s candidate in Croydon South at the General Election. Peter worked in the civil service for many years developing policy in welfare benefits, employment programmes, and renewable energy. Peter currently works for two charities, The Conservation Volunteers and Trees for Life, supporting volunteers in practical environment conservation and rewilding projects.
